This error usually happens on the server with older php versions.

Symptoms: uploading avatar to the server is possible, but they are not running. Reason:

Readfile function () is blocked.
RESOLUTION

Open: phpBB3/download/file.php

Find:

if (@ readfile ($ file_path) === false)
(
$ Fp = @ fopen ($ file_path, 'rb');
 
If ($ fp! == False)
(
While (! Feof ($ fp))
(
Echo fread ($ fp, 8192);
)
Fclose ($ fp);
)
)

Replace with:

echo file_get_contents ($ file_path);
