The best training for AE is Total AE Tape series Check out http://www.totaltraining.com/ You should be able to get a free demo tape Not cheap though

There is a new set of tapes out called AE Boot Camp that I like very much. also on a related subject, take a look at Videosyncrasies which has good info on masking, etc.

I also recommend the After Effects Classroom in a book if you are just starting out using After Effects. I'm sure you can find it at Amazon.com I'll second the recommendation for the book; it's very project- oriented and gets you going quickly. It's a lot cheaper than the training tape sets, too. There's a demo version of the Total AE training course that comes with AE. I hated it; it just drilled down on all the alternate ways of doing any particular thing, but didn't spend any time at all on actually accomplishing something with the program. I got disgusted 30 minutes into the tape and shut it off.
